Sea Anemone Florescence

Sea Anemone Florescence

Colors created by Mother Nature are incredibly beautiful. They are being extinguished by changes in our environment. Sea anemones are like ballerinas in their graceful swaying with the ocean tide. My fantasy sea anemone comes in many florescent colors and glows with happiness, blissfully unaware of what is happening in other areas of the ocean.

Petal Flower

Petal Flower

As the center spirals out, the petal scrolls are unfurling all around it. It's as if the shape is undulating outwards, tempting the viewer to wait, watch and see what happens next.

Scrolls Unfurling

Scrolls Unfurling

Scrolls unfurling represents things coming undone. Do you put them back the way they were? Roll them back up tightly with a rubber band to keep them in check?  Or can you just let them be, slowly coming undone, revealing their beauty on both sides? You decide.

Ribbon Transparencies

Ribbon Transparencies

A rainbow of identical flowers rotate evenly around a centered invisible axis. They appear to be opaque, yet when they overlap there is transparency in play. Which one is on top of the other? You decide.

After making this quilt out of the bright commercial fabrics, I wanted to try something different. So I rounded up my dyed, painted and marbled fabrics up and this was the fantastic result.

My Revealing Reflection

My Revealing Reflection

59" W X 51" L
2001
This quilt started out as a portrait of a woman with lots of gorgeous hair. Since I don't like to do eyes, I used a flower fabric for her "rose colored glasses" that were so popular when I was young. After completing the quilt, I realized it was a self-portrait.
